Description

20-24 Union Street in Inverness is an Italianate building designed by Ross & Joass in 1863, featuring incised Thomsonesque details and constructed from ashlar. The structure has three storeys and an attic, with a 19-bay front. The ground floor includes shopfronts and a central entrance framed by a Roman Doric columned doorpiece. On the first floor, the 5th, 11th, and 16th windows are bipartite, adorned with shell tympana and consoled cornices, while the other windows are aediculed and feature an anthemion frieze and balusters. The second floor is pilastraded, and the building is topped with aedicular gablets flanked by paired chimneys and pedimented dormers. A bracketed cornice completes the design.
