40-42 Union Street, Inverness

40-42 Union Street in Inverness is an Italianate building designed by Ross & Joass in 1864. It features three storeys and an attic, with a façade that has 13 bays, the center bay being slightly advanced. The ground floor has modern shopfronts and an arched, keyblocked central doorpiece. On the first floor, there is a tripartite window with a balustered apron in the center bay, while the second floor has an arched, keyblocked window. The attic is adorned with an aedicular gablet flanked by urns. The outer bays feature balustered aprons at the first three and last three windows on the first floor, and round-arched windows on the second floor. There are also dormer windows, a scrolled band course at the second floor, and a bracketed cornice topped with urns.
