Description
The Slipway and Ferry House at Totaig date from circa 1820. This is a small, single-storey rectangular building of three bays, serving as a ferry house. The front has a gable-end window overlooking the slipway and Loch Duich. The building is constructed of harled rubble, with round corners corbelled out at the wallhead. The windows retain some original 8-pane glazing. A later projecting porch has been added to the centre. A central ridge stack and a piended slate roof are present. A rubble slipway serves the ferry house. Originally thatched, the wallhead corners were corbelled out to accommodate the later slate roof. The ferry house acted as a link between settlements south of Loch Duich and those north at Dornie. Additional information is recorded in the New Statistical Account, page 207.
