Description
Lybster Harbour is a harbour complex dated to 1849, with significant rebuilding work in 1882. The harbour consists of four basins constructed from flagstone rubble masonry, with some areas rendered more recently. A small, octagonal lighthouse with a domed lantern stands nearby. Two storehouses adjoin one another, both built of rubble masonry with rubble dressings.
The western storehouse is three storeys high with six symmetrical bays. The store immediately to the west is two storeys high with six bays. Both storehouses have corrugated asbestos roofs. The western part of the store ranges was apparently used as a salmon fisherman's bothy until after World War 2, while the eastern part functioned as a herring fishing station, reportedly including a separate ladies water closet at the end of the building.
