Description
The lighthouse stands within the harbour complex of four basins, built in 1849 and rebuilt in 1882. The lighthouse itself is a small, octagonal structure with a domed lantern. Adjacent to the lighthouse are two storehouses built of flagstone rubble masonry, with some modern rendering. The western storehouse is three storeys high and has six symmetrical bays. To the west of the main western storehouse, a second two-storey storehouse with six bays abuts the original building. Both storehouses have corrugated asbestos roofs. Historically, the western part of the store ranges functioned as a salmon fisherman's bothy until after World War 2, while the eastern section was used as a herring fishing station, reportedly including a separate ladies’ water closet at its end. The structure is constructed of flagstone rubble masonry with some modern rendering.
