Description

This obelisk was erected in 1816 as a memorial to Colonel John Cameron, the eldest son of Sir Ewen Cameron of Fassifern, who was killed at Quatre Bras. The obelisk stands on a tall, square plinth with a corniced base and a moulded base, all constructed from polished ashlar sandstone. A marble plaque with a long inscribed eulogy is affixed to the south side. The area around the obelisk is enclosed by cast-iron railings. Details of the obelisk are also recorded in Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland.
