Description
Kilmallie House is a circa 1820 house, likely designed by Thomas Telford. It is a wide, two-bay, two-storey and attic building with a later rear wing. The south front presents a nearly symmetrical facade, with harling and painted granite detailing. A shallow projection features windows at ground and first floor levels in the east bay, while the west bay has a single window at ground level and a slightly narrower window at first floor. The west wall is slate-hung, with a later porch addition. The remaining walls are harled and painted. A rear wing bisects the first-floor rear windows. The building has very deep boarded eaves and a shallow, piended slate roof.
The interior features an unusual plan, seemingly originally conceived as two separate houses. It now incorporates two staircases located in the southwest and southeast corners, with two primary rooms facing the south front. A long rear corridor is present, notable for its arches and an arched opening leading to the rear wing. The property retains good panelled doors.
