Thurso Technical College Annexe, Castle Street, Thurso

Thurso Technical College Annexe, built around 1870, is a single-storey school with 11 bays. The building is constructed of tooled rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. It features a slightly advanced gabled centre bay and advanced gabled outer bays. The entrances are located in the re-entrant angles, with the left side featuring a square projecting tower topped with a pyramidal bellcast roof made of fishscale slate. On the right side, there is a similar square porch that rises as an octagonal first stage, which has small hoodmoulded windows on alternating facets and a steep octagonal bellcast roof. The advanced outer bays contain large hoodmoulded tripartite windows, and the windows mainly consist of 10-pane glazing. The building has corniced ridge stacks and slate roofs. There is a low coped retaining wall with cast iron railing along Castle Street, and a simple coped rubble wall along East Church Street.
