Description

The Burial Ground at Contin Church of Scotland Parish Church is an 18th century plain rectangular church that incorporates some late 15th century work. It was re-roofed in 1775, raised and altered in 1832, and underwent further alterations, including re-casting and repairs, in 1908. The church features harled rubble walls with tooled ashlar margins.

On the south wall, there are two symmetrical long windows that rise to the wallhead, flanking a projecting gabled Minister's room. There is a door in the right (east) outer bay, while a similar opening in the west outer bay has been blocked since 1908, with a small window inset. The gables each have gallery windows from 1832, with multi-pane glazing and stained glass in the west gable window. At the apex of the west gable, there is a bellcote with a pyramidal cap and remnants of a weathervane.

Inside, the church has a simple interior. The gallery stairs were altered in 1908, revealing a small medieval mural sacrament house in the east corner of the north wall. This feature has a pointed arch with a wide moulded surround and is checked for a door. Near the center of the north wall, there is a segmental headed recess for a mural tomb, which is now masked by panelling.

The burial ground is enclosed by a coped rubble wall and contains 18th and 19th century tombs.
