Description
The Roman Catholic Church of St Patrick, built in 1935 by Reginald Fairlie, is a simple rectangular church with its liturgical east gable bowed outwards. A bowed projecting porch faces northeast, and a gabled projecting chapel extends northwest. A squat, square tower is situated southeast. The exterior is white harled with contrasting painted cills, a base course, and other detailing. Tooled ashlar forms round-headed windows that light the east gable; similar smaller windows illuminate the nave and chancel. An engaged column supports a statuette in the centre of the chapel gable wall (north), sheltered by a hood. A squat, Germanic octagonal bellcote sits on the ridge, featuring louvred facets and a shaped lead ogee roof topped with a tall apex cross. The roof is slate, with a flat-roofed extension at the southwest.
The interior is simple, with a ribbed timber ceiling in the chancel. Harled coped enclosure walls, featuring square harled piers with shallow pyramidal caps, flank the entrance. Plain cast-iron railings and a gate provide enclosure. The church remains in use as an ecclesiastical building.
