Description

This is an 1875 Episcopal church of simple Gothic design, built by Lady Ewing, wife of the former Bishop of Argyll, and located in North Ballachulish, Onich. The church is orientated east-west and constructed of rubble with contrasting tooled red sandstone dressings. A gabled porch projects from the southwest side. The porch features a recessed round-headed doorway with double leaf doors and decorative cast-iron hinges, flanked by paired and single lancet windows in a buttressed south elevation. The 2-bay chancel has similar lancet windows, with a vestry located to the north; east and west gables feature triple stepped lancets. A simple bellcote tops the west apex above a clock face; the roof is covered with West Highland slate and lead-coated flat skews, with crosses at all gable apexes and decorative red tiled ridges.

The interior is simple, with a braced timber roof. The chancel is framed by a high pointed-headed arch. The church contains late 19th and 20th century stained glass windows, simple pews, and a double piscina in the southeast wall. A simple 3-panel screen, with each pointed-headed panel filled with hand-painted flowers, fronts the vestry. A further area features cusped panelling for choir stalls and the pulpit.

Adjacent to the church is a burial ground enclosed by a rubble wall with a roughly shaped cope. A pair of square, tooled rubble gate piers with pyramidal caps mark the entrance. A memorial cross, a copy of the High Cross of Oransay Priory, stands by the church porch. The ecclesiastical building is in continuous use.
