Description
Dunain Lodge, dating to around 1840, is a single-story gate lodge situated at Dochgarroch, serving as the west gate lodge to Dochgarroch House. The lodge is harled with tooled ashlar dressings and exhibits an asymmetrical design. The front, facing the drive, has an irregular three-bay arrangement, including a canted window and a flat-roofed entrance porch set in a re-entrant angle. This angle is emphasized by channelled pilaster strips, a feature repeated on the centre gable of the three-bay east elevation, which faces the road. The east elevation features a central window and a simple cornice returning at its angle to suggest a pediment. Window margins are shaped with corbelled cills, and the windows contain 2 and 4 panes of glazing. The lodge has square corniced stacks and a shallow slate roof with projecting eaves. A pair of square, channelled ashlar gate piers with square caps stand nearby, but without gates.
