Description
Dunain Park is a substantial entrance wing built in the later 19th century and attached to a simpler, earlier house dating from the early 19th century. The wing fronts the gable of the original house. It is two storeys high, with a three-storey Italianate tower featuring a rounded entrance porch projecting to the east. The wing is constructed from rubble with contrasting tooled ashlar dressings, while the earlier portion of the house, and the rear, are harled.
The porch features channelled detailing and capitals decorated with stiff leaf carvings on the nook shafts. Similar detailing appears on the tripartites in the second storey of the tower, which is topped with projecting eaves, a shallow piended slate roof, and an apex weathervane. A two-storey bowed bay window extends from the south gable.
The earlier house has irregular window placement and a two-storey canted bay window on the southwest. The windows have varied glazing, and the roof has end and ridge stacks. The roof is slate. Currently the building operates as the Dunain Park Hotel.
