Description
The site comprises a late 18th/early 19th century walled garden and a gardener’s cottage. The walled garden is large and irregularly shaped, enclosed by high, coped rubble walls. An arched entrance is located in the north wall, featuring a rounded-headed archway beneath a pedimented overthrow decorated with three ball finials, and paired decorative cast-iron gates. A lean-to glass house, added in the later 19th century, adjoins the south-facing wall, and a gardener’s lean-to bothy is situated on the north side. The early 19th century gardener’s cottage is a single-storey, symmetrical, three-bay dwelling facing east, with a rear wing. It is constructed of coursed rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The windows have varied glazing, some of which is later. A central ridge stack is coped and the roof is piended slate with projecting eaves. The gardener’s cottage is currently used as a holiday home.
