Description
The Church of Scotland in Canna, designed by P MacGregor Chalmers between 1912 and 1914, is a small rectangular church oriented east-west. It features a round Irish tower at the center of the west gable, constructed entirely from random rubble. The entrance is located at the southwest with a simple plank door and a rubble lintel that projects as a cornice. The church has three bays on the flanks with asymmetrical fenestration, including small pointed-headed windows and a pair of similar windows in both the east and west gables. The tower tapers and has four pointed-headed vents at its apex, which are fitted with slate louvres.
Inside, the church has a rubble vaulted interior with a low canted wooden pulpit at the east end, above which is a mural memorial tablet. A long communion table runs down the center, flanked on each side by two rows of benches, with short cross benches at the east.
The burial ground is a simple rectangular enclosure made of rubble walls, containing a single tomb. The pedestrian entrance is closed by a wrought- and cast-iron gate that features ornate decorative detailing.
