Description
These are an early 20th century group of six cottages, likely designed by W.L. Carruthers of Inverness. They are arranged as an asymmetrical terrace. The cottages are white harled, with polished ashlar doorpieces that appear as sandstone ashlar cills and window jambs. The entrances to numbers 1 and 2 are on the east elevation, while numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6 are on the north elevation. Numbers 1 and 6 have two-storey gabled porches projecting from the east and west ends respectively. Each doorpiece is square-headed and corniced, featuring a round-headed entrance with a shallow concave chamfer and three small lozenges. The doors have blacksmith hinges. Number 5 is flanked by single, round "porthole" windows. The windows are multi-pane casements, with 2, 3, and 4 lights on both the ground and first floors. The wide, gabled end bays project slightly to the north and south. Four gabled dormers break the north elevation wallhead, while two weather-boarded dormers are located on the south wallhead. A loft door is positioned above the porch of number 1. Tall, white harled corniced stacks rise from the roof, which is covered in slate. The cottages are said to have been built in 1914. Number 1, which has a loft door over the porch, was formerly used as a gardener's bothy. W.L. Carruthers is known to have worked on the former Belladrum mansion, which has since been demolished.
