Description

This is a mid-to-late 18th century house, originally symmetrical in design with two stories and five bays. It is a double pile house, meaning it has rooms on both sides of a central passage, with a rear pile that may have been added slightly later. The front is harled (roughcast) with ashlar (finely dressed) stone margins, painted and chamfered on the south side. A modern glazed sun porch now obscures the central front door. First-floor windows are located in the east and west gables; one on the west side is blind (non-functional). The rear elevation has irregular window placement and longer first-floor windows, featuring a pair of small, round blind oculi (small circular windows) in the centre. The windows are fitted with 12 panes of glass. A small, lean-to porch fronts the rear entrance. The eaves cornice (the decorative moulding at the top of the exterior walls) is cavetto moulded (a curved profile) on both the front and rear, and the end chimney stacks have been renewed. The roof is covered with West Highland slate.

To the east side of the main house, running north/south, is a long, two-story early 19th century range of harled rubble dwellings. These are now unoccupied and detached from the main house. A short length of garden wall connects the dwellings to a small, harled pyramidal dovecote/poultry house situated in the north garden. The dovecote has a central door at the base and a loft door on the first floor, and its pyramidal roof is completely overgrown with ivy.
