Description

The distillery on Clynelish Road in Brora dates from 1820 and 1896 and consists of a complex of two buildings. The main structure is an L-shaped, two-storey range built of rubble with tooled dressings. It features a kiln with a pyramidal slated roof topped with a pagoda cupola vent located in the south arm. The long south-facing elevation includes a mill room, boiler house, and stillhouse, along with a tall, later iron-banded brick chimney attached to the north elevation. A datestone displaying the joint Stafford and Sutherland arms is found on the east gable, which also has a bellcote with a gilded weathercock at its apex.

To the south, there are three parallel, mostly single-storey ranges with long elevations facing east and west. Two of these ranges serve as bonded warehouses, while the third contains various stores and a former two-storey, three-bay house that has been converted for industrial use.

Additionally, there is a range of seven parallel single-storey bonded warehouses dated 1896, with long elevations oriented north and south. Each warehouse becomes progressively shorter towards the north, as the site is constrained by the Clynelish burn to the northeast. The gable ends of these warehouses are recessed and stepped along the edge of the burn, featuring ball finials and a West Highland slate roof.
