Walled Garden, Clynelish House, Brora

Clynelish House in Brora is a house dated 1865. It is a 2-storey, asymmetrical gabled house featuring an entrance in a projecting gabled porch on the south elevation. The building is constructed of coursed tooled rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. A canted bay window rises to full height on the south front, while another canted bay is present on the ground floor only in the east elevation, which displays the Sutherland coronetted insignia in the gable above. The windows include mullion and transom designs, with tripartite and bipartite configurations and 2-pane glazing. The house has corniced ridge and wallhead stacks and a deep eaved slate roof.

The laundry, also dated 1865, is a single-storey structure with a dormerless attic and three bays. It is built of harl rubble with rubble dressings. The centre door is located on the south elevation, and there are three small loft vents at the eaves on the front and two on the rear elevations. The east gable features a bipartite window with a centre wooden mullion and multi-pane glazing. Shaped skewputts project from the gable ends, supporting simple barge-boards, and there are end stacks with a slate roof.

Inside, the laundry has a simple interior with a wash boiler in the east ground floor room. The loft was intended for clothes drying and includes wallhead vents and gable end windows, with slotted stays affixed to tie beams for hanging washing. The property also features a large walled garden made of rubble with a shaped dressed cope.
