Description
Eigg Lodge, built in 1930 by Balfour Paul of Rowand Anderson, Kininmonth and Paul, was reconstructed after a fire. This two-storey, five-bay dwelling faces east and features single-storey, flat-roofed wings that slightly advance from the north and south gables. The exterior is finished with colour-washed harl and contrasting painted rendered margins. The entrance is located in a recessed central bay, framed by a pair of moulded ashlar segmental-headed arches that are supported by a central Roman Doric column. Above the entrance, there is a recessed loggia on the first floor, which is fronted by an ashlar balustrade. The outer bays contain two windows, with the ground floor windows set in tall, shallow segmental-headed recesses, while the first-floor windows are linked by a cill band. Each flanking wing has two tall windows, and there is a centrally located corniced entrance in the three-bay south return gable. The building features multi-pane glazing throughout and has end stacks on the central block, topped with a piended slate roof. Decorative urns are positioned at each wallhead angle of the flanking wings.
