Description
Dated 1745 and 1756, Udrigle is a two-storey, three-bay house. It is constructed of harled rubble on heavy boulder footings. The north elevation features a central doorway, which is set within a plain, chamfered doorway masked by a low, gabled porch with crowsteps, dated 1756. The south elevation is symmetrical, with ground floor and first-floor windows in the outer bays, and a central window positioned between the ground and first floors to light the staircase half landing; a small window above also illuminates the stairwell. Single, small attic windows are present in each gable. Other exterior details include plain chamfered window margins, crowsteps, cavetto skewputts, corniced end stacks, and a slate roof.
The interior contains original panelled rooms on the first floor, with slightly different shaped panel motifs in the east and west rooms. The panelling includes former box bed doors in the east-facing parlour. Moulded, lugged architraves surround the doors, and there are six-panel doors. Moulded, lugged chimney-pieces are present, with a parlour chimney-piece dated 1745. The original shaped, flat wooden balusters of the scale and plat wooden staircase, located in the centre of the south front, rise to the attic. A marriage stone is set into the parlour chimney-piece, inscribed "17 WMK I MK, 45" with a heart in the centre. The porch lintel bears the inscription “17 WMK L MK 56”, although the figures "17" are damaged by harling. The panelling, doors, and doorpieces bear a similarity to those found at Flowerdale House (1738), Gairloch, and Mackenzie House. The property is currently unlived in.
