Parkhead Library, 64 Tollcross Road, Glasgow

The building at 80 Tollcross Road, designed by J R Rhind between 1904 and 1906, serves as a library combined with baths and a washhouse, which were designed by A B MacDonald, the city engineer.

The library is a two-storey structure featuring a dome at the corner, with a lower single-storey range that faces Tollcross Road. It is constructed of red ashlar and includes decorative sculpture, particularly channelled work at the ground level of the corner block. The first floor has arcaded windows with pilasters, and the building has a long facade along Helenvale Street. The corner bay has square-headed openings, and there is a blocked cornice with a parapet that conceals the roof. The lower range has a pedimented entrance, with sculpture by Kellock Brown, and a reading room to the left that features a large window combined with a thermal over a tripartite design. The original glazing remains intact throughout.

The baths and washhouse have a three-storey front facing Tollcross Road, also built of red ashlar and adorned with Renaissance ornamentation. It features mullioned windows and three pilastered bays, creating a symmetrical appearance above the ground floor, with a parapetted wall-head. The rear ranges are mostly constructed of red brick, and the low range is set back from Helenvale Street.
