Description
61-63 Miller Street in Glasgow is a four-storey, ten-bay warehouse built in 1854 by J Burnet Sen, with alterations made by J Burnet and Son in 1900 and 1901. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a Free Italian Renaissance style. The ground floor has been altered, but the upper facade remains symmetrical with paired central bays. These central bays have arched heads adorned with sculptured tympana and a decorative cast-iron balcony situated between ball-finialled dies above the first-floor central windows. The second floor has two flanking bays that are emphasized, while the first-floor windows are architraved and corniced, boldly bracketted. The third floor features six central bays that are arcaded with nine arches. Above this is an entablature with segmentally coped stacks.
The sash and case windows have a plate-glass glazing pattern. Inside, there is a top-lit well with slim colonnades and balconies that include projecting shelves, which were originally intended for the display and checking of fabric.
