Description

Circa 1852 pair of detached square classical villas divided

into 2 flats. Left villa contains 10 Great George Street

and 63 Bank Street; Right villa contains 2 and 4 Great

George Street. Access to upper flats at rear by external

stone stair; ground floor entrance to Great George

Street. Droved ashlar facades, coursed ashlar flanks; 2

main facades per house. Centre (entrance) bay shallow

advanced with plain parapet. Doorpiece lugged,

architraved and corniced, deeply recessed door with

panelled and rosette architrave and fanlight. Group

floor windows with lugged architraved with bracketted

cills. Centre ground floor windows of side elevation

consoled and pedimented. Windows to all flanks

architraved. Sash windows; No. 2 lying-pane glazing. No

10 plate glass glazing. Continuous heavy cornice and

blocking course to main facades; band course at eaves

of flanks and rear. Unusual treatment of stacks; gable

walls (N-W axis) built up between axial stacks with

roll-moulded blind panels and coped gable. Plain flues,

slate roofs.
