13 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh

13 Strathearn Road in Edinburgh is a terrace of eight two-bay villas built around 1885. The buildings are two stories high with a mansard attic and feature lightly stugged ashlar stone with polished dressings. Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band, a cill course, a deep bracketed cornice, and scrolled shoulders with either round-headed or pediments dormers that alternate between the villas. The entrance elevation of each villa has a segmental-headed tripartite doorpiece with foliate capitalled colonnettes on the right side, a panelled door, and a plate glass fanlight. Above the door, there is a corbelled cornice with a blinded guilloche panel that forms an apron to a single window on the first floor, with a dormer above. Each villa features a two-story, four-light canted window with a fishscale slate canopy and a dormer above. The doorway at No 12 is blocked. The villas have plate glass sash and case windows, with casement dormers at Nos 15 and 18. The roofs are covered with grey slate and include corniced mutual stacks, as well as coped and rendered stacks between Nos 13 and 14. The interiors were not seen in 1991. The boundary walls are low and line the street, with fragments of original cast-iron railings remaining at all houses except No 12.
