Janitor's Lodge, Abbotsford Primary School, 129 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow

The Janitor's Lodge at Abbotsford Primary School in Glasgow was designed by H and D Barclay and opened in 1879. This two-storey, 12-by-8-bay Italianate building is constructed of ashlar stone. It features an arched doorway set within two central advanced pedimented bays, with channelled masonry surrounding the door and two mask roundels. The ground floor windows have roll moulding and carved cills, complemented by a decorated frieze and cornices. A cornice runs above the ground floor, while the first floor has recessed aproned windows situated between Doric pilasters that bear shields. The building has projecting eaves with a mutule cornice and a slate roof that includes a glazed light for the central hall and two stacks. The east and west elevations are identical, while the north and south elevations each have eight bays with similar windows arranged in groups of 2-4-2.

Inside, there is a central hall with two staircases leading to the upper classrooms. The janitor's house, also built in 1879, is an Italianate cottage that is two storeys high and made of ashlar. It features dormer heads on the first-floor windows, bargeboards, a stack, and a swept slate roof. The property is enclosed by heavy cast-iron perimeter railings that include three small pedimented ashlar entrances.
