Chalmer's Free Church, 98-100 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow

Chalmer's Free Church, located at 98-100 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow, was designed by H and D Barclay in 1897. This Baroque-style church features aisles and a gallery, constructed from red ashlar and squared rubble. The entrance is marked by a semi-circular portico supported by two Ionic columns and two Doric pilasters. The central arched door is flanked by two doors, all set under arches with carved tympana. A string course runs at the gallery level.

On the first floor, there are two mullioned windows set within architraves. A large keystoned arch spans the portico, which encloses a rubble access area pierced by a rose window. The steep gable end is topped with obelisk finials and a small domed cupola bellcote, and the church has a slate roof.

The side elevation is made of plain rubble and features a clerestory. Inside, there is an arcaded gallery supported by cast-iron columns with ornate capitals. The ceiling is level and divided into panels, with some stencil decoration still visible.

Adjacent to the church is a two-storey rubble hall with ashlar dressings and a cill course at the first floor. The four-bay elevation facing Cavendish Street includes a pedimented door and a Diocletian window on the first floor. The gable end facing the street features a cornice and a stack.
