1155-1163 Argyle Street, Glasgow

This building, located at 1155-1163 Argyle Street in Glasgow, dates from around 1860 and is a three-storey classical tenement with modern shops on the ground floor. It features five bays, including a canted corner bay on the western return to Kelvinhaugh Street, with the third bay from the east being blind. The front is finished in polished ashlar, while the side elevation is in droved ashlar and the rear is made of squared rubble. All windows are sash and case with architraves and plate glass.

The entrance at No 1159 Argyle Street is a plain close with a panelled door. A cornice at the ground floor creates a cill band for the first floor. The first-floor windows are bracketted and corniced, with the first bay from the east featuring a two-light window with a stone mullion. There is a cill band on the second floor and three set-back dormers. The eaves have a cornice, and there is a parapet above. A corniced ridge stack is present on the slate roof. On the return to Kelvinhaugh Street, there is a skewed gable with a corniced stack and two attic lights.
