Description
The Sandyford-Henderson Memorial Church, located at 13 Kelvinhaugh Street in Glasgow, was designed by J T Emmett from London and completed by John Honeyman between 1854 and 1856. This building showcases early decorated Gothic architecture and is constructed of painted ashlar.
The church features a prominent façade with three buttressed gables topped with finials facing Kelvinhaugh Street, flanked by two lower gables beside a central gable that includes plate tracery in its windows. The eastern side has five bays with buttresses and four pointed windows adorned with hoodmoulds. There is an entrance with a hoodmould in the first bay from the west, which is complemented by responds featuring stiff leaf capitals. The western side mirrors the eastern side, featuring seven 2-light plate-traceried windows that illuminate the basement hall, along with short relieving buttresses.
At the rear of the church, there is a two-storey caretaker's house. Additionally, there is a coped boundary wall to the east, which includes plain responds and a coped canopy topped with a sculpted lozenge.
