9 Kelvingrove Street, Glasgow

This building, located at 1102, 1106, 1108, 1110, and 1114 Argyle Street in Glasgow, dates from around 1855 and is a four-storey classical tenement situated on a corner site with modern shops on Argyle Street and No 3 Kelvingrove Street. The structure features eight by twelve bays, with the arrangement on Kelvingrove Street being two bays angled and advanced, followed by three bays, and then seven bays that step up. The exterior is made of ashlar stone, which is partly painted, with a channelled ground floor and a rear elevation of droved ashlar.

The ground floor has a partial dentilled cornice above the shops. Most windows are four-pane sash and case types set within architraves. The entry to No 1106 Argyle Street is pilastered, while there are two corniced entries on Kelvingrove Street that feature sculpted mask consoles. There is a cill band running across the first, second, and third floors. The fourth and seventh bays from the east on Argyle Street, as well as the second and ninth bays from the south on Kelvingrove Street, are glazed blind. The first-floor windows have cornices with frieze consoles and chamfered tympanums, and the second-floor windows are also corniced. The building has a corniced wallhead and axial and end stacks, topped with a slate roof.
