Description

901-903 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow is a classical tenement block designed by Charles Wilson in 1853. It stands three stories tall with a basement and is located on a corner site, featuring a total of 7 x 6 bays, with the second bay from the north on Kelvingrove Street being blind. The building is finished in painted ashlar and has a channelled basement.

The main entrance leads to a flat and close at the top of a stone stair. A continuous three-bay portico is supported by Corinthian columns, which are coupled at the center, and features pilasters and a balustraded parapet. There is a leaded glass fanlight above the entrance at No 901. The ground floor has a dentilled cornice, and all windows are four-pane sash and case, set in recessed architraves on the upper floors. The ground floor also includes a Doric pilastrade with sculpted heads, moulded cills, chamfered aprons, moulded architraves, and a plain frieze.

On the first floor, there is a cill band, and the windows are corniced and consoled with sculpted head brackets. The second floor features a cill band, lugged architraves, a cornice, and a continuous string course linking the elements. The eaves have a sculpted floral frieze and a modillion cornice, along with a balustraded parapet with piers. The central section is solid and Adamitic, adorned with a frieze. There are three dormers facing Sauchiehall Street, a piended slate roof, and a corniced wallhead stack on Kelvingrove Street, as well as an end stack.

Inside, No 901 includes a curving column screen in the left rear angle room and features corniced, coffered ceilings.
