Sunlight Cottages, Kelvingrove Park, 2 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow

Sunlight Cottages, located in Kelvingrove Park on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow, were designed by James Miller and were inspired by Port Sunlight for the 1901 exhibition. They were presented to the City of Glasgow by Lever Brothers in 1901. The cottages consist of four asymmetrical, two-storey buildings with multiple gables, showcasing a Cheshire vernacular style. The structures are built of red brick with an elaborate timber-framed upper floor. Some gables are jettied and feature dragon beams, carved bressumers, and bargeboards, while the main west-facing gable is tile-hung. There is a single-storey service court to the east. The cottages have multi-pane casement windows of various sizes, a few small four-pane sash and case windows, and one window with modern metal glazing on the east side. The buildings also feature boldly detailed projecting chimney-breasts on the west, south, and east sides, with corniced and coped brick stacks, all topped with red tile roofs.
