Description
Govanhill Church, located at 12-24 Daisy Street in Glasgow, was designed by Robert Baldie and built between 1878 and 1880 as a United Presbyterian church. It serves as a terminating view to the west along Bankhall Street.
The church features a nave with gable-fronted aisles, constructed from stone-cleaned yellow ashlar. The street elevation includes gallery level windows adorned with delicate tracery. A central gabled shallow porch is flanked by blind arcades, and the structure is supported by slender buttresses topped with pinnacles. The roofs are covered with slate.
Inside, the church boasts a good interior with a horseshoe gallery and lower seating arranged in a similar layout. It is supported by two tiers of cast-iron columns. The original pulpit, which has two stairs, remains in place, along with an organ by Abbot and Smith from Leeds, installed in 1912.
