Description

Partick East Church, located at 20 Lawrence Street in Glasgow, was designed by J B Wilson and completed in 1897. This late Gothic church features a nave, aisles, a clerestorey, and short ritual transepts at both the east and west ends. The building is constructed from red rock-faced rubble with ashlar dressings and stands two storeys tall, with lower two-storey halls to the west.

The entrance elevation, which faces Lawrence Street, is buttressed and includes a ribbed, arched, gabled double entrance. This entrance has a central niche and a sculpted tympanum with a vesica. There are two west-facing tripartite windows with cusping, set in moulded arches, along with elliptically-arched ground floor windows that are also set in arches. The central hall doorway features three arched windows above it. Attached to the building is a polygonal turret with its own roof, which has cusped eaves windows and a finial.

Inside the hall, there are plain lancet windows set in an arch above two four-light windows with relieving arches. The roof features a lantern with a finial. The east elevation, which faces Elie Street, includes cusped lancets in the transepts, with single-light windows to the west and two-light windows to the east. The aisles have small four-light windows, and the clerestorey has bipartite cusped lancets. There is a single entrance bay set back at the east end, featuring a moulded, arched doorway.
