37 Havelock Street, Glasgow

37 Havelock Street in Glasgow is a classical tenement block built around 1858-1864. This quadrangular, three-storey building features a symmetrical design and steps down towards the south, measuring 34 by 17 bays. The exterior is made of polished ashlar, with some areas painted in linostone. All windows are sash and case, set within architraves, and mostly have 12-pane glazing. The building has a blocking course that rises to a parapet at the north, south-east, and west end pavilions.

The elevation facing Lawrence Street consists of 34 bays, arranged in a pattern of 7-20-7. It features alternating close and main door entries, each framed by pilastered doorpieces with dentil cornices. The end sections have 7 bays, and the outer bays of the ground floor showcase advanced tripartite windows beneath a cornice. The first-floor windows are highlighted by a cill band, with some having console cornices or block pediments adorned with sculpted reliefs in the tympanum.

The elevation on Hyndland Street mirrors the detailing of the Lawrence Street side, arranged in 17 bays with a 6-5-6 configuration that follows the slope. The north and east elevations replicate the opposite sides, and the building features corniced axial stacks and a slate roof.
