Description

15-17 Hope Street in Glasgow is a five-storey commercial building designed by Sir J J Burnet around 1900. It features a severe astylar style and includes a public house on the ground floor. The building has four bays, with the outer sections advanced by a single bay. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar with a granite plinth.

The entry to the upper floors in the southernmost bay at No 15 is adorned with a bay-leaf ornamented hood and a fanlight. There is a cornice at the ground floor level. All windows are sash and case, set within architraves, with eight panes in the upper sash, two in the lower sash, and the first-floor windows in the outer bays are pedimented and corniced above.

The building features a plain entablature with a mutule cornice and a parapet that is raised in the outer bays. There is a short angled return bay with polished ashlar above the first-floor level, which has three storeys of single lights with narrow windows to the right. The public house includes leaded glass lights.
