Description

R Fairlie and Partners, 1954-6. Built after Dr Fairlie's death although still in his manner. Church and attached presbytery in Spanish ranch style. Harled with ashlar base course, dressings and quoins to E front only, brown painted window frames; green Westmoreland slate roof. CHURCH: rectangular-plan church with various projections, 2 uneven transepts, lower gabled sanctuary at W (liturgical E). Various side chapel projections including one to S which is canted. Bold gabled entrance front with tall flanking bays gabled to N and S. 3 doors at centre with large carved panels over depicting St Augustine, loaves and fishes, a chalice and water. 3 windows with cross finial above. Windows all long and multi-paned.

INTERIOR: spanned by parabolic arched roof, plain fittings.

PRESBYTERY: linked to church by low arcaded passage with round-headed arches. Asymmetrical, 2-storey house. Variety of window designs, 1 canted window to S. 3 bold stacks. Materials as church but no ashlar.
