Description

West Lodge at Dunnikier House, dated 1899, is a two-storey lodge designed in an L-plan with Scottish 17th century detailing. The building is harled with ashlar dressings and features a conical-roofed round stair tower. The first floor of the tower is corbelled, and the lodge has crowstepped gables along with corniced, pedimented dormerheads.

The east (entrance) elevation has four bays, with an advanced gabled bay on the left. This bay includes a window to the right on the first floor and a loop in the gablehead, along with a window on the return to the right at ground level, featuring a narrow light above. The stair tower is located in the re-entrant angle to the right, which has a studded door facing north and three round-headed lights topped with a weathervane. To the right, there are two bays with windows on each floor, where the upper floor windows break the eaves into monogrammed dormerheads.

The south elevation, facing Hayfield Road, has three windows on each floor, similar to those on the first floor of the east elevation. The west elevation shows asymmetrical fenestration, including a gabled bay to the right and a pedimented dormerhead to the left. The north elevation features a gabled design with a door to the left at ground level.

The lodge has a 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, and coped and harled apex and axial stacks. It also includes cast-iron downpipes with a decorative rainwater hopper on the southwest side.

The boundary wall is a shaped, coped rubble wall located to the southwest.
