Description
Fluthers House is an early 20th-century house with minor alterations, situated on Glenwood Road, Leslie. It is a two-storey house with an attic, built on a rectangular plan. The walls are harled, with stone cills and mullions. The doorcase is of droved and polished ashlar, featuring a segmental headed opening with stop-chamfered arrises. A swept roof shelters a wooden verandah, and a wide bow window has a lead corona and paterae in a side wing.
The south (main) elevation has a four-bay facade (grouped as 1-3). The main block is on the right, featuring a central bipartite window on the ground floor and a wooden swept-roof balcony with a recessed French window on the first floor. Gabled outer bays have tripartite windows on both floors, with a modern dormer window at the centre. An advanced, lower bay on the left features a tripartite bow window with a lead corona, palmette, and paterae on both floors, breaking the eaves.
The north (entrance) elevation has a central stair window, a ground-floor window to the right, and a small window above under the eaves. There is a bipartite window to the outer right and a piend-roofed gabled dormerhead breaking the eaves on the first floor. A deep-set panelled door is set within a full-height gabled ashlar panel, also breaking the eaves, with a bipartite window above. A modern rooflight is placed to the right of centre. Bays to the outer right (the rear of the bowed bay) have a modern picture window to the left and a small adjacent window to the right. First-floor windows have gabled dormerheads breaking eaves to the outer left and outer right.
The east elevation has a window to the right of centre at ground level, followed by a further window to the outer right. A dominant stack with an adjacent window and a gabled dormerhead to the right both break the eaves. A small bipartite window is located to the outer left under the eaves.
The west elevation features a centre door with a tripartite fanlight and a narrow light to its right. A projecting chimney breast supports a two-door, harled outhouse with a catslide roof adjoining at right angles. Another door is to the outer right. A window is to the left, with a projecting, partially corbelled chimney breast to the outer left and a window beneath the corbelling. The first floor has small windows at the centre and to the right in close proximity to the chimney breast, both under the eaves.
The windows generally have a 12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows on the first floors of the south and north elevations, and on the east elevation. Other windows display various small-pane patterns or are modern. The roof is covered in red tiles with ashlar coped skews and stacks, some of which have cans. The eaves overhang and are boarded.
Pyramid-capped banded ashlar gatepiers mark the entrance. Ashlar gablet coping defines the flanking quadrant walls, and coped whinstone rubble boundary walls extend beyond.
