Description

An earlier to mid-19th century house, situated on a sloping ground falling to the east. It is a two-storey building with an attic and a partial basement, and has three bays with a gabled roof. The exterior is constructed of squared, coursed rubble with rusticated ashlar quoins and raised stone margins. There is an eaves course and hoodmoulds over the front-facing windows at ground level, as well as chamfered arrises.

The west-facing (entrance) elevation is symmetrical. A deeply set, panelled, two-leaf timber door is set within a moulded doorcase, featuring flanking circular bases and a stepped hoodmould over a blind tablet which may have originally displayed a coat of arms. There are windows with hoodmoulds in the flanking bays, and regularly placed windows at the first floor close to the eaves. The central gable has a small window beneath a chimney stack.

The east-facing elevation has a basement, although details are obscured. The ground floor features canted windows to the right and left of centre, a large stair window centrally, and windows to the right and left at the first floor level. The north-facing elevation has a first-floor window to the outer right, and another at the gablehead. The south-facing elevation has an outbuilding adjoining the house at ground level, with a window above at the gablehead.

The majority of the windows are timber sash and case with a four-pane glazing pattern, although plate glass glazing is found at the rear. The roof is covered in graded grey slates. The chimney stacks are built of shouldered and coped ashlar, and feature polygonal cans. The roof also boasts ashlar coped skews with scroll skewputts and thackstanes, along with cast iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

Adjoining the main house on the south side is a single-storey, L-shaped outbuilding constructed of rubble (partly converted to a garage). Its west-facing elevation includes a boarded timber door with a plate glass fanlight to the right, and a modern window to the left. Below a hayloft opening is a garage door. The north elevation has a boarded timber door to the right of centre, a blinded window to the outer right, a window to the left of centre which is partially timber louvred, and a further boarded door to the outer left. The south elevation has a door to the right of centre, two windows to the right, a further window to the left, and four rooflights above. It also has graded grey slates, timber bargeboarding with exposed eaves, a small finial, and cast iron downpipes.

A decorative cast iron gate is set between square, pyramidal, coped ashlar gatepiers and quadrant walls. Semicircular coped random rubble boundary walls enclose the property.
