Description

242 High Street in Leslie is a cottage built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a single storey structure with a part-basement and attic, featuring three bays and situated on sloping ground to the west, next to an irregular terrace.

The north elevation, which is the principal façade, is symmetrical. It has a deep-set panelled door at the center, topped with a 2-pane fanlight, flanked by windows in the outer bays. Above these, there are tile-hung piended dormers. To the right, there are two narrow basement windows.

The east elevation has a small window opening in the gablehead. The south elevation features a door to the right of center, with a window at the outer right and three windows to the left. There is also a two-bay part-basement with a door to the right and a window to the left.

The cottage has uPVC windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the rear and front basement have sash and case windows with small-pane glazing. The roof is covered with red pantiles, and features ashlar coped skews and cavetto coped gablehead stacks.

In front, there are decorated ironwork railings with pal stones at the east corner and at the house. A coped whinstone rubble wall encloses the rear east side.

At the back of the property, there is an 18th-century outbuilding that was doubled in size in the earlier to mid 19th century, making it contemporary with the main house. This two-storey structure has a part-basement to the north and an irregular plan with a pend. It is constructed of random whinstone rubble, featuring large lintels and small window openings. The roof is also covered with red pantiles, and it has ashlar skews and coped ashlar gablehead stacks, along with an ashlar and brick stack to the south.
