Description

475-479 High Street in Kirkcaldy is a mid to later 19th century terraced tenement, with a cottage dating from the 18th century. The building is three stories high with an attic and features four bays above ground. The front is finished in polished ashlar, while the rear is harled. There is a ground floor band course and an eaves course, with a shouldered opening on the ground floor to the right and stop-chamfered arrises.

On the south elevation facing High Street, there is a central two-leaf, part-glazed timber door with a plate glass fanlight, flanked by windows. To the outer right is a timber door with a four-pane fanlight, and to the outer left is another part-glazed timber door with a four-pane fanlight. The first and second floors each have four regular bays, and there are two piended dormer windows above.

The north elevation features a variety of elements, including a tall, round stair tower in the center and slate-hung piended dormer windows over the outer bays. The second floor has a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the first floor and dormers use plate glass, all in timber sash and case windows. The ground floor has top-opening windows. The roof is covered in grey slates, with coped ashlar stacks and ashlar coped skews.

At the rear, there is a two-storey cottage that is harled and has a slate roof, with modern doors and windows. The property is enclosed by coped rubble boundary walls.
