Description
These are 18th-century cottages, renovated and situated adjoining a smithy near Kilmany. The smithy is constructed of whin rubble with a pantile roof and contains a fine collection of smithy equipment. One of the cottages, facing west, is built of harled (whitewashed) walls with a pantile roof, and has modern two-light dormers with twelve panes of glass in the upper storey. The ground floor windows are original, dating from around 1830 and also featuring twelve panes. The other cottage, also facing west, is single-storey, harled, and has a pantile roof. Its elevation features two two-light windows with twelve panes of glass and a central doorway. The smithy and cottages are of group value, meaning their significance lies in their collective appearance and relationship to one another. They are located at Both Lord Kilmany's.
