Description
Moonzie School is a two-storey building with three windows, originally a single-storey structure that was reconstructed in 1853 based on designs by John Inglis of Colluthie, executed by David Innes and Thomas Lawson. The schoolroom was added in 1856, designed by Robert Morrison, who was the schoolmaster, to meet the requirements of John Inglis and also executed by Innes and Lawson. The building features a tall single-storey porch with three windows and a finial on the west gable. It is constructed from whin rubble with droved dressings, retains its original glazing, and has a slated roof, although the chimneys have been replaced with brick.
Adjacent to the school is a water pump dated 1868. This pump is notable for its unusual droved stone pillar, which has chamfered edges and a rounded top. It includes a deep recess that houses a hand pump with a delicate wrought-iron handle. The lead reservoir box is also dated and marked with the maker's mark "Steel Cupar," and there is a cast iron spout. The pump is accompanied by a concrete well head and a small brick structure nearby.
