Description
This is a late 18th-century bridge carrying the A914 road over the River Eden. The bridge is constructed of rubble, with coped parapets that originally had a groove for railings. Splayed back walls are present at the approaches, and the corners are finished with droved dressings. Later repair work has been carried out using brick. The main arch is segmental and spans the River Eden, with droved voussoirs. The bridge features triangular cut-waters with battered copings on the west side, and higher-set subsidiary arches to the sides, designed to accommodate flood levels. The River Eden was embanked by Mr Johnstone of Lathrisk, with a channel alteration taking place around 1787. The bridge is partly located within the parish of Collessie.
