Description
Melville Home Farm, built around 1860, is a notable complex of farm buildings featuring an ornamental ashlar front facing Melville House. The main entrance to the courtyard is a central round-arched opening set in an advanced gabled bay, topped with a clock tower and weathervane. Above this entrance, there is a two-light upper window with a dripmould.
The main structure is two storeys high with three window bays, and it has slate roofs with pronounced eaves. The ground floor features dummy sashes, while the advanced gabled end bays have upper sashes with dripmoulds. Original segmental arched doors are present only at the north end. The north range of the complex includes domestic accommodation and is constructed of whinstone rubble with freestone dressings. Additionally, there are segmental arched openings in the courtyard at the north end of the east range.
