Description

The Customs House, located at 35 Shoregate in Crail, is a tall, three-storey building constructed in the late 17th century. It features an L-shaped plan with a roof that sweeps down over an outshot at the back. The exterior is harled with margins and includes a pend arch adorned with relief sculpture of a vessel, along with a double door leading to the ground floor warehouse, which is now used as a garage. The crowstepped gables have inscriptions; the eastern skewputt is inscribed with "RW HD" and crossed palm leaves, while the western skewputt features "HP" with an anchor. The building is slated and has notable interior work, including an attic.
