Description
Thatched Studio is a building from the later 18th century that was converted into a wash house in the 19th century and then transformed into an artist's studio in the 1990s. The front (east) elevation features a timber door with a red sandstone lintel, a small window to the left, and two windows above at the loft or mezzanine level. At the rear (west) elevation, there is a small brick lean-to with a pantile roof.
The roof is thatched with water reed and has a turfed ridge, with the rear pitch being part thatched and part glazed. The windows are timber fixed panes, and there is a coped chimney stack on the north gable.
Inside, as seen in 2017, the space is a single area with lime-washed walls. The former boiler located at the north gable has been converted into a wood burning stove. A timber half-mezzanine with a staircase was also added during the 1990s renovation.
