Description

8 Bennochy Avenue in Kirkcaldy is a two-storey International Modern villa designed by Williamson & Hubbard, built between 1933 and 1934. The building features a harled exterior with concrete cills, a flat roof, and plain-coped parapets.

The south elevation, which is the principal façade, has two bays framed by low chimney breasts on the east and west sides. It includes windows with horizontal metal-framed glazing, consisting of three panes wide and four panes deep on the upper floor and on the right side of the ground floor. There is a rectangular projecting bay on the ground floor to the left, with a window that wraps around the left corner, featuring four panes facing south and one pane to the west.

On the west elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a bow-ended stair projection with a long window to the left. The entrance door is located in a re-entrant angle and is topped by an octagonal light, sheltered by a cantilevered canopy. Above the door and to the right, there are single light windows.

The east elevation is relatively plain, with a window located on the ground right. The north elevation features symmetrical fenestration, including a single-storey back wing that projects to the left and a link to the garage beyond.

The villa showcases multi-pane, horizontal glazing patterns in its metal-framed windows. The chimney stacks are coped and harled, with cans, and there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

Inside, the villa has a well-preserved interior that was unaltered as of 1985, although it was not seen in 1997.

The property includes a low terrace at the front and a stepped garden wall, which is stuccoed and coped to match the house.
