Description

The Polish Ex-Servicemen's Club, also known as Bennochy House, is a late 18th to early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay symmetrical house located on Forth Park Drive in Kirkcaldy. It features a parallel two-storey extension built between 1860 and 1880, forming an L-plan range on the south elevation, designed in a similar traditional style. The exterior is harled with painted margins and has crowstepped gables on the original block. Notable details include quoin strips, stop-chamfered arrises, and stone mullions on the later 19th century gable.

On the north elevation, the ground floor has a central window, two windows to the right, a door to the left, and another window to the outer left. The first floor features a window in the crowstepped nepus gable at the wallhead, with flanking windows that are raised and just breaking through the wallhead, topped with catslide roofs that sweep back into the main slated roof.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a taller advanced gable to the right with large tripartite windows on each floor and an ex-situ wall plaque above inscribed "16 KA 89." There is also a plaque featuring Bialy Orzel on the return to the left. The recessed face includes a flat-roofed entrance porch with a cornice and blocking course, a door with a plate glass fanlight to the west, a blinded window to the south in the re-entrant angle to the right, and a window to the left, along with two additional windows close to the eaves on the first floor.

The east elevation has an M-gable to the right with a small flat-roofed projection off-centre left at ground level and a first-floor window off-centre right, while there is a blind bay to the left. The west elevation features an M-gable with a first-floor window off-centre left and lean-to outbuildings across the ground floor.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped harled stacks and ashlar-coped skews.

Inside, the building has been altered but retains some decorative plasterwork cornicing, a staircase with decorative cast-iron balusters and a timber handrail, and original late 19th century shutters.

Adjoining the west elevation are a range of single-storey, slated outbuildings with pitched and lean-to roofs, forming a small courtyard with a wall to the northwest.

The boundary walls are made of coped rubble, with square-coped ashlar gatepiers. There are later 19th century decorative cast-iron gatepiers and gates leading onto the driveway.
